Alum named to new Athletics posititon

After a stint of nearly three years as the Business Manager for Temple Athletics, the department recently promoted the Temple alum (’08) to Associate Athletics Director for Finance and Administration.

A sport and recreation management major in his time at Temple, Theiss will serve as the Chief Financial Officer of the department, responsible in part for managing the university’s $44 million athletic budget as well as overseeing the athletics business office.

“Tim is an extremely hard worker, and has proven invaluable during his time here at Temple,” Vice President and Athletic Director Kevin Clark said in a statement. “His knowledge of the field, and of the inner-workings of Temple Athletics make him the perfect fit for the position.”

Before hiring on with the department in 2011, Theiss had held positions in the ticket and business offices at Rutgers and Villanova from his graduation in 2008.

“I’m very grateful for this opportunity,” Theiss said, per press release, “and I’m excited to continue working for my alma mater.”

Clark appointed Athletic Director

Kevin Clark has been named vice president and director of athletics, President Neil Theobald announced today in a press release.

Clark has been serving as interim athletic director since May 3. Previously, Clark served as  senior associate athletic director at Indiana. Clark also worked in the athletics department and at one point served as the director of business administration-student development at Saint Louis University.

“Kevin’s positions at Saint Louis and Indiana universities give him extensive first-hand experience in both the financial and managerial challenges of sports at the highest levels,” Theobald said in a statement. “I believe he is exactly the person we need to take on the challenges our Athletics Department will encounter in the next decade.”

“This is an incredible opportunity,” Clark said in a statement. “I am thrilled and humbled to be taking on this key position at a school with an incredibly exciting athletics future.”

Clark’s appointment is effective today.

Another former Hoosier added to Temple Athletic Department

Pat Kraft was named Temple’s newest Deputy Director of Athletics on Wednesday afternoon.

Kraft, most recently the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director at Loyola University Chicago, will serve under Interim Athletic Director Kevin Clark. In two years at Loyola, Kraft directly managed the external operations of the athletic department. This included marketing, fundraising, ticket sales and media relations.

Before going to Loyola, Kraft worked on the senior athletic staff at Indiana University, where he oversaw all branding and marketing aspects of the teams. He holds three degrees from Indiana: a bachelor’s degree in sports marketing/management earned in 2000, a master’s degree in sports marketing/administration earned in 2005 and a doctorate in sports marketing earned in 2008. As an undergraduate, he was a linebacker on Indiana’s football team.

Kraft, along with Clark, is the second former Hoosier to be hired to the athletic department since Neil Theobald took office in January.
